Our local watering hole is open and has been open through all the closures. A few restaurants and bars around here have closed (many for good) but everyone seems to be at a breaking point. Many bars and restaurants are open. Some blatantly, some through word of mouth. For instance, our favorite bar looks closed but you can go through the kitchen door to get in. The bar up the street, same thing. Side door, windows covered...did you ever in your life imagine we'd be back to Speakeasys? I look around and what I see is a lot of people who take the virus seriously but also have chosen to use their brains and they know that they're politicians are out and about, living life to the fullest and they don't seem all that afraid of catching COVID, so we should we be? In March, the streets were empty after lockdown. Today, it's as busy as it can be given how much is closed. The overreaction to this has been absolutely bizarre to watch. It is my hope that people will enjoy their Christmas season in whatever way they deem appropriate. We are going to visit my in-laws, who are surely in the vulnerable range. But they lost 2 adult sons years ago...they know how precious time with loved ones is and they aren't willing to sacrifice any of it. Also, my FIL thinks Americans are being super wimpy about this😆
I'm going to a Hanukkah party on Thursday and having a small Hallmark viewing party on Saturday and next week I'll be in L.A. for a small Christmas party (after which I plan to sit still until it's time to travel to see family...just to be safe). I sure hope I don't get COVID, just like I hope I don't get a cold or the flu. I'll wash my hands and avoid licking eyeballs, but I won't give up this season of good cheer for a virus with a 99.6% survival rate. You shouldn't either. You know what is right for you, what makes you feel safe, and what precautions to take to protect those around you. It's vile that our governing class thinks you don't, and thinks they need to send you to your room while they get to enjoy cocktails and company downstairs. I've had it with this bs. I really have. I'm done coddling the fearful and I'm done trying to see both sides. I'm both-sides to DEATH on this. I can't argue with fools anymore, because it's making me look foolish. If you're terrified stay home forever. The world is full of fright and death and risk and germs and horrible things. I will never see that as a reason not to seek out the beauty of this planet we've been gifted. My prayer this season is that God will raise up a strong and mighty people...that He will bring us a renewal of reason, enlightenment and gratitude...that a revival of an American spirit and a dependence on the Creator will sweep across our nation. I believe in the downward slide of history but I also believe we still have many strong and good years ahead of us if we corporately turn back to our founding values.
